Soulless Garden & Pocari Sweat

architecture photography, black and white photography, Portrait photography, street photography

The few positive results of me and my friend’s journey to San Jose. We went to the Japanese friendship garden and let’s say we did not see what we expected to. Anyway, I was able to capture a few good shots with my camera (I miss it – enter crying face emoji). If you have seen my previous work then you should know that I like to play with shadows and capture people in natural situations. Some people may think that the subject of the shot is an angry participant but it’s simply a shot of my friend as we crossed the threshold of a soulless garden.

That day was a long day as we had already drove to Milpitas earlier to have some fantastic Vietnamese food before heading to Palo Alto. We managed to walk the long road to Stanford University before making the much shorter seeming way back out of the campus. San Jose was suppose to be the cherry on the top of a very good day but it was more of a disappointment than I could ever imagine.

However, me and my friend still had a blast. We managed to find this small Asian grocery store that stocked one of my favorite drinks, Pocari Sweat, which I was ecstatic to find. If you haven’t had it before, I would heavily suggest it. I generally say to new drinkers that it tastes like flat 7up or Sprite with less sugar. It may not sound good but I have hooked two people to it so far.

This journey to Palo Alto & San Jose was one of the many small trips I’ve taken this year. I also travel through my job around Northern California so I have to places that I never heard about it before like Cool, Shingle Springs, Cameron Park, and many more small towns. So this is the just the tip of the iceberg of what I have to share.

Hope you enjoy the journey that I am sharing on this site. If not and you are even more of a visional person then check out my Instagram. If you are here for the long ride, hop on and stay tuned in.

New Paths

architecture photography, black and white photography

My friend was gracious enough to allow me to photograph him on my last trip to SF. Ironically, I took this shot because I loved the composition but now that I look at it it was the perfect shot for the occasion. The friend in the shot is leaving for the military tomorrow night. He is embarking on a new path without his friends and family. The trip to SF was our last trip together before he shipped out. My and my other friend attended his goodbye party and afterwards we went to get some boba tea and nacho fries from Taco Bell before we split ways.

So I didn’t indeed this shot to having that kind of meaning for me it just happened because of the moment. I’m truly grateful for the experience and that I was able to capture such a moment thanks to my love for photography and my almost obsessive need to capture moments on trips.

I wished my friend good luck on his new journey and he wished me the same. Nothing will be the same but it’s up to me to walk down my path. I will remember our friendship and treasure it for the rest of my life.

Peace and good luck,

Day 8 – Friendship

black and white photography

My friend kindly pours a cup of green tea for me as I take photos. It was starting to sprinkle as I took this so I couldn’t take too many shots. I really like how the water flows and all the little details in the shot. This was before we ate the Japanese sweets at the Japanese Tea Garden. I think I did a good job with composing the shot. Although, I may go back and crop the right side a little bit as I notice a little bit of a napkin appearing at the bottom right side. It’s nothing big but it irks me a bit.

Those hands belong to my friend, M, who became my friend two years ago after we took a tennis class together. He is my first real friend, he was kind enough to go to San Francisco with me twice and most likely a third time in August. It was thanks to him that my sense of humor has improved and its thanks to him that I’m not a total recluse. So I’m grateful to him.

I talk about how negative I feel about my current job but I obtained three friends. My friend, R, taught me how to ride a motorcycle and has spent a great deal of time with me outside of work. I introduced him to M and the two became friends as well. R did accompany us to San Francisco the first time. Hopefully, all three of us can go again. Shay is a recent friend of mine, who bonded with me over basketball. She is an older sister type that helps me out at work. Lastly, there’s TB who bonded with me after I asked him if he liked anime. I go over to his house often to eat dinner with his family and play video games.

Two to three years ago I decided to be more social which sparked my friendship with M which helped me be more outgoing. So I understand how to see small improvements and fully commit to something that terrifies me. My pursuit of increasing my social life has vastly improved. I’ve failure a lot but I am happy with where I am in my social life. It’s one aspect of my life that I don’t really need to improve besides maybe getting a girlfriend.

I failed a bit today but in failure I found some success. I was able to add a little more to my routine. I still haven’t launched my side hustles, I still have to do research and make a plan. I plan to do it tomorrow on my lunch break. Besides that, I really working on exercising, recovering, and shortening my after work nap. Once I can cut down on the naps, I will have a lot more time on my hands. I might be going on a motorcycle trip tomorrow so I will have to kind of cram things I want to do while I am at work. It will be a struggle, but it’s totally worth it.

So hopefully, I can make some results tomorrow. I’m not expecting to do everything but I expect to give my all to everything that I can find time for tomorrow.

Rest when you are done. Peace,

Another quick portrait of my friend as he drives us to San Francisco. I couldn’t imagine that I would have two good friends and those two friends would become friends as well. I also can’t believe that I would actually go on a trip with other people. I can honestly say going to San Francisco was one of the best experiences of my life. I hope that I am able to go back with these guys. Someday I’ll go back on my own and explore but I would truly be grateful if the two of them would still be my friends in the future.

Enjoy true friendship,

P.S. not my best portrait but I’m practicing and doing my best to improve.

IMG_20180323_123217-01.jpeg┬áNot religious at all but I found this graffiti to be interesting. I like how the shot came out after converting it to black and white. I don’t always showcase graffiti as I don’t want to support something that I don’t understand or is harmful. I found this graffiti to be not harmful so I captured the shot. It’s also an anti-pc statement in a way.

Walked 8+ miles today, I truly pushed myself. Going to be working hard to not fall asleep before I get a few more things done. Going to try to avoid walking as much as possible but I feel like I will be doing the opposite.

Had a lot of fun playing tennis and talking with my friend. We hang out at least once a month and we tend to push ourselves during tennis. We go out to eat and talk about everything from Asians, politics, philosophy to anime and manga. It’s nice to do that once in a while when I need a break from studying and working.

Kick back once in a while,
