A quick portrait of my friend the last time we went to San Francisco earlier this year. One of the few times I took a portrait and didn’t want to make is black and white. I know I need a lot of work when dealing with portraits but I’m proud of this one. It’s simple, decent lighting and a good expression. My friend doesn’t bat an eye anymore when he sees my camera so it leads to more natural shots which I like.
Phew! Working on learning more about my craft. Haven’t been taking a whole lot of shots but have been editing and studying fashion photography. Looking to explore more genres of photography while creating a style and direction for my craft. It’s not a one day journey even though I want it to be. I’m doing what I can to take it day by day and as a photographer and as a man.
I working on myself as I’ve gotten lazy again. But I always remind myself life is too short not to give it your all. I’m making the decisions that I need and following through. Because no matter what decision I make I will be criticized.
On a whim, me and my friend paid a good $400 to spend a night at the Kabuki hotel in San Francisco. We always looked at the building from the outside but it was truly worth to see the inside. Life is too short and I want to experience it.
It was a nice visual treat to see the fog slowly roll over the hills of San Francisco from the sixth floor balcony. Plus being able to simply walk two minutes to be inside Japantown was worth the money alone.
Didn’t explore the city as much as normally would. I simply stayed in the hotel room or explored Japantown mainly with my IPhone 11. The place was packed, it was sad to see that some of the shops were closed but that’s for another post. The hotel has a beautiful koi pond with a little sand garden to spend a peaceful few moments.
The gym was bigger than I thought it would be. It featured everything you would want from a punching bag to weight benches. Sadly wasn’t able to check out the spa but I will definitely be back.
I’ve been dealing with health issues and be focused on getting money that I neglected things like this blog even though it means something to me. I promise that I will updating this blog frequently until my creative juices are tapped out.
Boom! Like that 2020 is over and 2021 is upon us. I hope that everyone has a much better year this time around. I don’t have many trips plan this year except for two: Las Vegas, NV to Phoenix, AZ to Los Angeles, CA & the biggest trip to Tokyo, Japan. I’m truly hopefully that I will be able to finally fulfill my childhood dream of walking through Japan. We simply have to wait and see with the pandemic. At least I have a lot of opportunities to stash more cash than I normally would.
Planning to leave my job for another one as soon as I can find a better one. It’s not my new years resolution but it’s the first goal I want to accomplish this year. I’ve outgrown my current job and would like to explore another industry while pursuing photography. Been taking my fair share of Skillshare courses and I’m almost done with a flay lay course. I’ve been experimenting a lot with food photography and going outside of my comfort zone.
Have been experimenting with YouTube which I will write about in length in a post in the near future. I only have two resolutions this year: 1. keep my room clean 2. Get closer to being the best version of myself. I have a long road ahead of me but I’m here taking the baby steps necessary to sprint towards my next journey and be able to truly grow.
I’m happy to say that I am back on this site and will be continuing to work on my purpose. I have no excuses for being gone so long but I swear to myself that I will be active.
I was able to leave my previous retail job for a higher paying job with more benefits and more freedom. So I am in a better place than I was when I stopped writing here. Sadly, my Nikon D3300 was submerged in Folsom Lake so it’s out of commission. I’m working hard to get another DSLR but for the meantime will be shooting with my iphone 11.
It will be a challenge but my phone has a good enough camera to satisfy some of photographic urges. I’m simply trying to live my purpose and act accordingly. I can’t be lazy anymore and expect things to turn out well. Got to get off my ass and get to hustling. Returning to this blog is a simple step in the right direction for me.
Will be investing more in myself and less in entertainment. The only thing I can do is to prove it with my actions as words are just words.
Back after a short break! Was able to find some photos to edit like the one above. It’s a simple shot I took of an art installation project in San Francisco. We were looking for an exit but we ended up in art.
Was finally able to get some of my photos printed and I have to say that I truly love them. I like how my photos look printed much more than on a digital platform. It was cheap too, 22 photos for 6 dollars. Going to be having more photos printed and eventually publish a photo book. I still have to choose which photos to include with the first book. Will be releasing a poetry book as well but just like the photo book, I have to select what poems to include.
Will be getting creative in taking shots so I can upload here on a more regular basis. Hopefully I will be able to make some great shots happen.
A shot I took while taking photos of the beautiful water in San Francisco. I’ve reviewed my photos from my trips and I have noticed what I need to improve on. I will focus on improving my photos especially developing my post-editing skills.
Took my new lens out for a spin early in the morning. I played with it and enjoyed the process. Been a while since I took my camera out so it felt like a breath of fresh air. Might post some of the photos here once I upload them to my Google Drive but we will see. I plan to do another photo walk on my next day off which will be Tuesday.
I’m focusing on gaining skills and my health during this world event. Taking time to read and improve my mental health. Now, I will just need to focus more on my physical health so I can truly become the best version of myself.
Just a quick post as I felt writing but have to get prepared for work now.
A shot of my friend as we wait for our boba milk teas at Cafe Hana in San Francisco’s Japantown. I’m grateful that my friends don’t mind me taking photos of them while on our trips. It helps me practice my skills and makes me energized when I capture a good shot.
Yesterday was a very productive day for me. I was able to completely clean my room and get most of it organized. Did work for my side hustles & made a little cash. My investment portfolio is up at the moment. I’ve been studying investing practically everyday and I’m learning how to apply what I learn successfully.
I’m taking to reflect on my life and current choices that I need to make. I’m doing the little things that will improve my life because they eventually will turn into something big. I have a lot to achieve and no excuses to not go after what I want. Now is the time while I am still young.
On a side note, really need to learn how to edit photos better. I’ll be going back to my Golden Gate Bridge photos and re-editing them as I am not satisfied with them. It’s good motivation for me to actually start to dive into gaining more in-depth knowledge about the editing process.
Well got work in a few hours, so I’ll end it here with a good night/morning.
Working hard to improve my portrait skills. I mainly focus on street and architecture photography but would like to dive into more portraits. It’s kind of hard to do so at the moment due to the virus. I’ll be putting myself out there once this ends. It’s scary but I’m willing to face that fear for the benefit of my future. Going to try to take a photography course at a community college in order to learn how to work in a studio.
My thoughts are unorganized as I’m trying to combine passions but can’t figure out how yet. I have a few ideas but will have to give it more thought.
A shot of my friend exploring art and trying to find an exit. This was a send off trip as he shortly left to join the military. So this is a great photo to represent a good time and to showcase his departure. Might try to re-edit this shot and work on the walls.
My new camera lens came in and I’m happy with it so far. Will take better photos of it tomorrow and showcase it. Going to break it in on a photo walk. I am more willing to invest into my passions and myself. I normally don’t because I don’t like to see my bank account balance go down. Haha I’m sure that’s most people but I’ve decided not to wait and work hard towards my goals.
Going to be buying a zoom lens next and a new phone next. I’m not too happy with the kit zoom lens I have and my phone is shitty at best. However, will space out my purchases in order to keep my finances healthy especially during these current times.
Viewed a webinar about investing yesterday and set a goal for my investing. Which is to earn 70k from the stock market. Right now, my portfolio is worth $984, so I have a long way to go. However, now that I have goals towards investing I can better determine which stocks to go for and my approach to investing in general. Going try my hand at being a more aggressive investor. Will be continuing to study investing and put in 100 dollars every two weeks.
Besides that, I focused on my side hustle of re-selling on E-Bay. I’m not making much money doing it but the small amounts I am earning are adding up. Also decided to go to Japan in April of 2021 so I’ll be saving up for that. Applied to a few jobs that will teach me new skills and hopefully diversify my resume. Was turned down by one but I’m hopeful that I’ll hear back from one of the others.
Get your goals down and the work will be easier as you at least know your starting point.
A portrait I took of my friend as we waited for a light to change in San Francisco. Working hard to improve my portrait skills in order to improve as a photographer and hopefully find myself in a studio. I like how his hoodie is, it adds a little detail in this shot. I’m proud of the progress that I’ve made with my photography but I definitely know what my weak points are.
Currently, I’m researching new lenses for my nikon D3300. I’m thinking about a 35mm or a 55mm. I’ve been using the kit lens this whole time and would like to see what I can do with a new one. Tomorrow, I will decide which one to get after watching a few YouTube videos. I want to get two lees, one for portrait photography and a versatile one for street, portraits, and travel. I’m planning to go on many trips once this pandemic is over.
Also make get a second camera, one good portraits or video. Looking to shoot short films and videos and I’m not the biggest fan of the video side of my Nikon plus would like a flip out screen. It’s something that I will decide soon after doing some more research.
Making a plan to do 23 & Me, so I can finally see my ethnic makeup. I’ve been told many things by family members in the past but none of them seem truly fruitful so I want to take the test. Plus I’ve always been interested in this kind of thing. I will order a kit in the upcoming weeks.
Things are starting to roll for me, I’ve started to instill discipline in myself and better my work ethic. I’m proud to say that my room is clean and organized. Started to work out again and I am watching what I eat. I need to just start writing again, seeking writing projects, growing my photography platform, re-design this site, design a portfolio site, put together a professional photography portfolio, publish a book, and learn Japanese. I’ve got a lot on my plate and I will get it all done as it’s what I truly want.
Working hard to improve myself and in effect my life. Decision making is hard but it’s a must.
